Building Envelope
Building envelope technologies have significantly improved in recent years to accommodate the greater emphasis on a building's thermal envelope performance. A well insulated and air tight building aids in reducing energy consumption. Poor performing thermal envelopes allow heat to escape the building, requiring the mechanical system to produce more energy to maintain temperature. When this occurs, valuable dollars are being allocated to increased energy costs instead of users' needs or facility improvements.

An existing building’s thermal envelope performance can be increased by replacing or improving installed systems including:

Evaluate general building sealing and resolve areas to reduce air infiltration.

Increase roof and building insulation to reduce heat loss and prevent cold from penetrating.

Replace exterior doors and windows to incorporate technologies such as low-E glazing and insulated windows.

Replace weatherstripping at exterior doors to prevent cold air from entering and heat from leaving.
